Meghan and PND in pregnancy

It is no surprise that Meghan felt sensitive and unhappy in the couples recent Oprah TV revelation.  Pregnancy can be a happy and not so happy time for women depending upon the support received or expected can be disappointing and brings unhappiness during the special time of new life.

What has perhaps not been taken into account is the hormonal surges received during Pregnancy. A lot of women feel under par, depressed and anxious  in the last trimester during pregnancy. Early onset of baby blues.  Some can even experience through the whole experience depending upon the relationship and or scenario regarding insemination.

Linked to their own experience of birth. The type of birth they had and how their mother was feeling emotionally and the hormonal surges created while in utero. Replayed in the woman’s own pregnancy journey. Sensitivities are felt.  Emotional behaviour can be mixed, with out of context upsets, ‘walking on shells’ is often a term used during this time.

The additional impact on women in the third trimester is working far too long into the pregnancy. They become exhausted and are often diagnosed with post-natal depression when it is not PND but exhausted and burnt out from pregnancy and a new baby to look after.  Fears of the birth and physical changes can also be a factor. Hormonally the surges and delivery can be a mix of confusion as a new mum can feel lost and out of control, lethargic etc. Family support is called upon at this time, feeling we need our mum to hold our hand more than ever.  As has been described regarding Meghan and a constant connection to her own mum required.

A big issue and not recognised as a form of depression and suppression of self. PND is more prevalent and does cause storms of issues around relationships and protective survival behaviour, which I feel has come across in Oprah’s interview.  Obviously from my point of view not the best time to be focusing on this topic while heavily pregnant again.

More surges of negative hormones for the new child to receive… and so the pattern goes on!

Clinical evidence does exist. Transference from mother to child sets base line behaviours, coping strategies’ and underlying depression and anxiety.  I have anidotal evidence that women do pass on their own depression to their child while pregnant and one reason why we have high levels of depression and anxiety in young and teens today. I also see it in Harry. Harry also has this underlying anxiety from his mother… the tragedy is that it is not recognised or prevented.

I wrote and treat PND and PTS a combined health issue that hit a lot of women. Prevails long after the birth and subsequant births. My book Pregnancy and Birth a New Generation.

D.A.R.E therapy includes methods that can easily resolve transference influences from utero/womb.

Book can be ordered through website or download chapters accordingly. E book available.
