ADHD and cardiovascular effects by Joy Wisdom

The impacts of ADHD stimulants on the heart has been known for some time and doctors are prescribing beta blockers to counteract the outcomes of arrhythmias. (1)

Additional long term studies and data shows young people taking ADHD are at risk of developing cardiomyopathy (weakened heart muscle) reducing daily task abilities.

A Swedish study with ADHD 12-60 years old found those who used drugs such as Ritalin or Adderall has significantly increased rate of cardiovascular events within six months of use. The study found no difference in risk between those with and without a history of cardiovascular disease. (2)

Prescribed drugs such as amphetamines Ritalin and Adderall increases the risk by 17% in first year and 57% over eight years. (3)

The writing is on the wall we have data that shows the risks, but does anyone know?

Why are health practitioners ignoring the risks to individuals who are affected enough by the ADHD symptoms a frontal cortex and over stimulating issue. Logic says why give them additional stimulation. Crazy thinking from my point of view.

And the real injustice is a hostage to drugs and no long term cure at the end of it!
